The Curtain Society – ‘Life Is Long, Still’ – (Bedazzled)

Has the recent roster of 4AD gotten you down? Think dreampop is dead? Well, perk up, kid! Bedazzled’s The Curtain Society and An April March proove there’s hope yet for those of us who still like to sit in the dark with lighted candles and insense whilst listening to dreamy, floaty bursts of ethereal bliss. The Curtain Society - Life Is Long, StillLife Is Long, Still, the follow up to Intertia has all of that which made you love The Curtain Society (flangers and tremelo, delays and vibratos, swirling and chiming), but this time there’s double the amount melody and double the amount of intensity. All the best bits of Slowdive (that pastoral feeling), the Cure (that crashing feeling), Pavement (that slack feeling) and the Red House Painters (that feeling of dread) seem plucked to make one fine, cohesive album that doesn’t sound ripped off (except for that bit of Sebadoh’s “Magnet’s Coil” in “Apnea” which is credited to them) as it seems like I’ve acused them of *****
